May 2026

Spring seems to have fully arrived in Discovery Ridge! It is great to see new vegetation springing up and bringing colour to our neighbourhood after the long cold winter. Now is the perfect time to be clean up after the snowy season and our ULS crews are working to prepare our neighbourhood green spaces for the growing season. This work is weather dependent so timing can be uncertain. If you see something you feel has been missed, please reach out to us and we will direct effort in that area. We are all eager to see our beautifully landscaped spaces at their very best.

NDHA Annual General Meeting 2025

The Board of Directors will hold the in-person Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Tuesday, June 2nd at Ambrose University (150 Ambrose Circle SW). This is a new venue for us and parking can be found behind the main building. NDHA members will be notified of the AGM details by email or Canada Post, and there will also be signage placed at the entrance to the community. At the AGM NDHA Directors will provide updates on NDHA-related matters, share what we see for the coming year, and all of the participants will elect the new Board of Directors coming year. Directors will also be ready to answer any questions you may want to raise. We look forward to seeing you there! If you cannot attend the AGM, please send us your proxy vote so the required quorum will be achieved and the meeting can occur.

SymbolicTreeProgram

Did you know that Calgary residents can commemorate a birthday, wedding, anniversary or any other special day by planting a tree in one of Calgary’s many parks. Participants in this program get to work with a Parks Urban Forestry representative to determine a species and location for your symbolic tree. The tree can both celebrate a highlight in your life and help the environment by increasing Calgary’s urban forest. Costs depend on the size of tree chosen. You can get more information by calling 311 or at the web site: https://www.calgary.ca/parks/tree-commemoration.html

Spring Cleanup

In May there is a lot going on to prepare for the growing season. The City will be sweeping streets beginning in mid-April. At the time of writing, the schedule was not available but last year Discovery Ridge streets were swept in the first week of May. Now is also a good time to check your downspouts and any drainage features you may have in or adjacent to your yard. These need to be clear of any obstructions to function as intended. ULS will be working hard on the turf and planting beds as well as cleaning up the pathways from winter snow clearing. As you tidy up your yard for spring, the NDHA would like to remind you to dispose of your trash in your own garbage, recycling, and composting bins. Using community trash bins for your waste is considered illegal dumping and can result in a fine.

Discovery Ridge Dam Safety Project

The NDHA Directors are following this project closely. We do not manage the area of the dam itself but we do maintain surrounding areas and we want to understand how changes will impact the NDHA’s work. We are also Discovery Ridge residents and are very interested in how this initiative will impact our community. We were very disappointed to hear the City’s final decision that the dam will be removed (communicated at the 29 January Technical Information Session). Moving forward, we have been told by City staff that they are close to having a conceptual design for the future state of the land. An open house is being planned by City staff for May to share the City’s designs and get input. The best way to get more information about this project is to go on the project web page: https://www.calgary.ca/planning/water/discovery-ridge-dam-safety.html

We are always happy to hear from our NDHA members; please use our Residents Inquiry Form or send an email to general@ndha.ca.  You can also call us at 403-237-9595.
